The mission of the Daphne Beginning Band program is to provide students with an introductory experience with playing in a school band. There is special emphasis placed on learning to read music coupled with the challenges of learning to play a musical instrument. Our program does feed into the Daphne Middle School and Daphne High School band programs.
We believe the students engage in self improvement in areas inside and outside of music as they learn to overcome the challenges specific to playing their instruments. The enjoyment of creating music and overcoming the challenges associated with it are encouraged daily in class.
Our director, Ryan England, is in his 24th year of teaching instrumental music in Alabama. He currently serves as band director at W.J. Carroll Intermediate School, Daphne East Elementary School, and Belforest Elementary School. Mr. England holds degrees from the University of Mobile (Bachelors) and the University of Alabama (Masters). He is originally from the Mobile area as a graduate of Satsuma High School. Mr. England presently calls Spanish Fort home with his wife, daughter, two step daughters, and four dogs. He enjoys running, being active at church, reading, music, and college football.
